Karura Forest is 1,041 ha (2,570 acre) consisting of three parts separated by Limuru and Kiambu roads. The portion to the east of Kiambu road has been allocated to special national priorities. The forest contains 36% of indigenous upland forest tree species. There are some 200 species of bird as well as suni, Harveys Duiker, bushbucks, bush pigs, genets, civets, honey badgers, bush babies, porcupines, Syke's monkeys, bush squirrels, hares, fruit bats, and various reptiles and butterflies that one can observe and photograph the whole day. Enjoy your day getting some exercise or just breathing the fresh air on the 50 km of trails. Visitors can walk, run or bike.Â
After working up an appetite in the fresh air of Karura forest, have a hearty meal in any one of the restaurants facing the waterfront and housed in the Two Rivers Mall.
Two Rivers Mall is located on Limuru Road just up the road from Karura Forest. It is a contemporary landmark shopping centre, the largest in east Africa.
The day's contrast of natural and modern is amazing.
